Vlad Bejsiuk is the goalie for the NHL’s San Diego Scorpions. He’s been in love with Zoe Millis almost from the moment he met her. He knows she’s got a thing for him too. Life is great! Right? No.

Zoe Millis is the sports psychologist for the Scorpions. There are very strict rules about doctor/client fraternization. Zoe understands this, and even though it’s hard for her, she abides by it. Well, 99% of the time. Everyone slips up now and then.

Vlad tries to lure her to him with his friendship. He uses his charm and good humor. He assures her that no one will know of their relationship, but she is adamant. Zoe does not break the rules. Well, not more than once … or twice.

What can he do? He is determined to find a way to break her down and make her see things his way. Vlad will interfere with every date she has if that’s what it takes. Who knows? A little goalie interference could go a long way to getting him what he wants, or maybe he will be forced to give up one thing he loves in order to keep the other.

Goalie Interference NHL Scorpions Book 2 edition by Nikki Worrell Literature Fiction eBooks

This is a great addition to this series, although it also involves a few issues with a bit more serious overtones to it than the first book.

Zoe and Vlad have had this serious attraction to one another for years, but since the league frowns on any players getting involved on hired staff members, they aren't free to act on that attraction. This book brought out a lot of raw emotions I didn't see coming, but I thought the author did a pretty good job of handling those issues. As a person who has had first hand knowledge of Vlad's career ending condition--- the medical facts were off quite a bit--- but then again; this is a work of fiction so I'm willing to let that pass.

And even though this book had a more serious overtone to it, I really, really enjoyed this book. I loved the little twists and turns thrown in at the end, and I loved watching the way these two handled the whole situation. The ending left me wanting more though. I want to know more about how things turned out for them in the end; just call me greedy. ;)

Goalie Interference NHL Scorpions Book 2 edition by Nikki Worrell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Another fabulous 5 Star read from Nikki Worrell. Goalie Interference is the second book in the NHL Scorpions series, and picks up right where The Enforcer leaves off. In my opinion this book can be read as a standalone as Zoe and Vlad are only friends of the main characters in The Enforcer but you will enjoy this book so much more if you read The Enforcer first.

We first met Vlad and Zoe in The Enforcer and know there is something between them and have some history but their circumstances will not allow it, Zoe is the team psychologist for the San Diego Scorpion and Vlad is their goalie and also a patient of Zoe’s. As the book starts we get to see that first meeting between them and see from that moment Vlad was smitten with the good doctor and he wasn’t going to give up. It then picks up where their good friends, Jody and Lacey from The Enforcer have just tied the knot and Vlad is determined to get Zoe to give in to what is going on between them. And he has decided if he can’t have her, no one else can either.

”I want you, and I’ll have you. GO ahead and try to date. I’ll interfere with every goddamn one. You understand? You’re mine, Zoe Millis, and I’m going to prove it to you. I’m going to ruin you for all other men.” ~ Vlad Bejsiuk

But something happens, something we saw a hint of in The Enforcer but have seen more of and then it is confirmed. But when Vlad is faced losing one love he gains another. But now that he has what he wants, can he be truly be happy, will things finally work out. And what will be waiting just around the corner to keep things interesting?

I really enjoyed Vlad as a secondary character in The Enforcer so was definitely looking forward to Goalie Interference but l truly didn’t expect to fall in love with him as much as I did, even more than I did with Jody. He may be a hot hockey player but he truly has such a great heart that truly makes you swoon.

Zoe has seen her shares of hard times, not having a great upbringing after losing her parents but she is such a strong woman who knows what she wants and when she makes up her mind she goes for it, and boy did she ever!

”The first time I see you each day, you take my breath away. I thought about what it would be like without you in my life and it hurt here. You and me – we fit.” ~ Zoe Millis

I truly enjoyed this book, it had the right combination of romance, sexy hotness, with a side of I didn’t see that coming along with a great message about a topic that is very much in the news today right at the end. I really loved the dynamic the author created between these two characters and although this is fiction and we loved to escape reality sometimes, I really loved that this story had a realistic feel with all elements of it, from the moment I started reading till the time I finished, I just had to know their story and how it would all end, would Vlad and Zoe after all these years get that HEA they truly deserve.

”I love you Vlad Bejsiuk. I know I gave you a lot of grief, but I’m glad you kept interfering in my life” ~ Zoe Millis

And the best part, just like the end of The Enforcer, Goalie Interference has an added bonus, we don’t have to say goodbye completely to our favorite characters just yet, YAY!
Let me just say that I don't think there is anyone out there who was looking forward to reading this one more than I was. I'm pretty sure that Nikki Worrell has put me on some sort of "watch-for-stalker-behavior" list. I stalked the heck out of this book release. I even woke up early to check for it. Early. Me. Willingly giving up an hour of sleep on a Monday morning.

I'll tell you why I was so excited about this book. First of all, in the Enforcer (the first book of the series) we are introduced to and fall in love with Vlad...yes, and Zoe, too. Second of all, the conflict between Vlad and Zoe is already set up and AWESOME. I LOVE the forbidden love. It so teeth-gnashingly delicious. Oh the want! Oh the need! Unethical? Immoral? Yes, please. Come on, romance novels have been based on much less conflict than that. Thirdly, Vlad is a hot hockey goalie. Need I say more? I was positive This. Would. Be. Epic.

When you read a lot of romance novels like I do there's not many surprises, you know? There's tons of cliches, tropes, character motivations that are all tried and true. And that's fine. If I didn't like that, I'd read mystery or something. But lately I'm on a roll of being surprised by books. Nikki Worrell sort of surprised me. And I have to give her props for it. I'm not here to give spoilers, but I can say that you're not going to read this and have a gasping shock of a surprise. But the story is going to meander down a path that you (at least I) didn't imagine.

I'm giving her props because I can see how the predictable could have caused some to say "I just wanted them to get over it already!" Or maybe start to bash on Zoe for being stupid and saying "no" so much.

I really liked this story. And I'm in love with Vlad. But I'm withholding that 5th star because toward the end there it wasn't so much the Vlad-and-Zoe-story, but more like the Vlad story. I know this won't make sense until you read it, but Zoe almost felt like a secondary character for a while. That doesn't mean that I, in any way, disliked it. It was a moving and entertaining read. I was pissed when real life kept interrupting me. It was a page-turner for sure. It just was missing the sexual tension and sigh-worthy romance that I had built up in my brain.

One thing that I love about this series is that the heroines are likeable. There's not a moment where I think, "Lose this b*#ch, dude, you can do so much better" (And I think those things a lot when I read romance). I'm an unapologetic heroine-basher. They aren't perfect, they are real and relatable and I appreciate that.

So I will anxiously await Cage's story and I will stalk the heck out of that release, too.
